New look pitchers attract buyers

Bhopal, Apr 24: Nature has given several gifts to the human being and one of it is clay. The potters have given many shapes to this clay on their wheel(Chak) and prepared pitcher.

It is called fridge of the poor and have become the first choice of the people in summer. Mercury is rising day by day in the capital.

Whereas, there is great change in the shape and colour of pitchers today. Now the pitchers are not prepared simple and smooth but are availble in the market in several designs with tap.

Potters say that most of the pitchers available in the capital are brought from Betul, Shahpur, Ahmedabad and Jabalpur.

There are two types of pitchers , first one is of red clay and used for cooling water and the another is of black clay which is used for preserving curd at home.

Various uses

Pitchers are not only used for cold water but also for several rituals and anushthan.

What are the rates- Rates of the pitchers are decided according to their capacity and size. They are sold of Rs 15 to 70.

What they say

Sachin says that he purchases pitcher in every summer season. My mother used to bring pitcher in summer season. Though I have fridge at my place but pitcher water has different taste and pleasure. I like it and quench my thirst with its water.

Lalitha Bai(40) says the pitchers not only make water cool but its designs have its importance. The pitchers are also used as show piece.

Amit, professionally an architect says that he believes in natural things. At an extent I use it in my life, he said. I have no fridge at my home and like pitcher water most.

Navin Prajapati, a pitcher seller said that he has been in this business for several years. Different types of people come to purchase pitchers. Even after having fridge at their homes , people do purchase pitchers in summer.
