35 fodder scam accused convicted

Ranchi, Apr 23: A special CBI court on Wednesday convicted 35 people in a fodder scam case of fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 15.37 crore from Jamshedpur treasury in the early 1990s.

CBI judge Manoranjan Kavi handed out three years' imprisonment to two supspliers Puran Chand and Saraswati Chandra.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Chandra and Rs 50,000 on chand.

The quantaum of punishment of the 33 others convicted in the case would be pronounced on April 29. Ten of the convicts are ex-officials of the Animal Husbandry Department and the rest are suppliers.

This is the 26th case out of the 53 fodder scam cases to have ended in conviction.
