Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged the central government to allot food grain at the rate of 35 kg per month per family for 62.50 lakh families holding BPL Cards in the state. At present Government of India allocates BPL food grains at the rate of 35 kg for only 41.25 lakh families as a result of which the availability of food grains to BPL families is about 20 kg per family per month. Chouhan also demanded that Madhya Pradesh should be allocated 1.19 lakh metric tonnes of food grains every month for distribution to the Above Poverty Line (APL) families, besides and early sanction of the proposals sent to the central government for relief to the six severely drought affected districts of Bundelkhad region and 3 districts of Vindhya region.
In a letter to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. Chief Minister said the state government has submitted a proposal of Rs. 1548 crore 91 lakh for the drought affected districts. A separate package of Rs. 24,244 crore for six severely drought-affected districts of Bundelkhand and three districts of Vindhya region has also been submitted.
