Tight security for Chennai IPL match

Agencies

Chennai, April 22: A 15,000-strong police contingent, will maintain vigil when Chennai Super Kings take on Mumbai Indians at the M A Chidambaram Stadium here on Wednesday.

"About 15,000 tickets have been sold so far, with more sales expected. The ground can hold a capcity crowd of 38,000 though not all of the seats will be filled," Chennai Police Commissioner G Nanchil Kumaran said.

The police have banned spectators from bringing metal items and glass bottles, besides directing them not to burst crackers in the stadium, he told reporters here today.

"Officers in plain clothes would keep vigil on mischief-mongers and arrest them if the need arises," he said adding strict action would be initiated against fake ticket-sellers.

Australia's Matthew Hayden, India's one-day and Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya and other top stars would be seen in action.

And to spice up things, the Chennai crowd will have the likes of famous singer Hariharan and popular drummer Sivamani perform for them.
