Judicial process needs reforms: Alternative measures also desired

Special efforts are required for making the judicial system better in the country. Specially, there is concern over mounting number of pending cases. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has also expressed concern over the issue of delay in judicial process. He believes that if this situation is not controlled in time then the entire judicial system would come under question and crumble by its own pending cases. In a two-day joint conference of State Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of the courts Dr Singh said that the state governments should increase judicial officials in their states to solve pending cases as soon as possible. Dr Singh seems to be in consonance with the suggestion of Supreme Court Chief Justice, KG Balakrishnan that special courts should be formed to speed up disposal of pending cases. Problems of the people due to delay in delivering of justice should be felt. Action should be taken on the concern of Prime Minister. In fact the common people specially of weaker sections of society have to face problems in this matter. There is need to bring in reforms in the judicial process for providing instant and cheap justice to common people. Along with this the new cases should also be solved without effecting much delay. Explaining the government's initiative in introducing the gram nyayalayas bill 2007, Dr Singh said these courts would provide justice in relatively simple civil and criminal cases in 90 days. It is also envisaged that the courts would function in a manner that justice can be delivered on the doorstep of the justice seeker.
