Meaning of democracy in Nepal: Fulfil people's aspirations

The foundation of democracy through constitutional assembly elections has been laid in the neighbouring country Nepal. But, how strong would this base would be is a matter to ponder over. In recent constitutional elections Maoists have bagged 116 seats out of 213 results declared so far. Nepali Congress secured 33 seats and CPN (UML)secured 29 seats. 27 results are awaited. Though the Maoists have got simple majority, but it is a great victory for them. Now, the Maoists would play an important role in the government in Nepal. CPN supremo, Pushp Kamal Dahal alias Prachand and Baburam Bhattarai are certain to be made President and Prime Minister respectively. Some of the important allies of ruling alliance have given indication not to participate in next government. Seven ministers have given resignation from Koirala government. One of the Members of Parliament of Nepali Congress has said that Maoists have got the mandate to form government. Now, the Maoists have to decide as to how they would form the government. The basic aim of the election of constituent assembly is to draft a constitution for the establishment of federal democratic republic. Elections have been completed only on 240 seats out of 601 seats of constituent assembly. According to the rules, the party having majority in 240 seats would have the right to form government. Thus it is clear that the Maoists would form the government in Nepal. It is well known that communists do not believe in following the path of democracy. The organisation and its head adopt dictatorial attitude. China is its best example. West Bengal is an example in our country. Elections are held under the concept of democracy, but the way of ruling the government remains not democratic. Thus even through a base for democracy has been laid in Nepal, but with the forming of government by Maoists, the end of the government lies within it. A new era of democracy has been started in Nepal. Let us see what would be the form of democracy and its attitude.
