Habib Ganj, easily the shabbiest police station

The shield for the shabbiest Police Station in the capital city of Bhopal , if there is one, will easily go to the city's Habib Ganj Police Station. Ironically, it is located in Arera Colony sold as the most posh colony of the city. It has been functioning from a run down building chipping off at hundreds of places, which, perhaps, got a coat of paint about a decade or more ago. Most window glass panes are broken.

At a time when we talk of the total sanitation of the rural areas, this city police station can boast of only a dysfunctional primitive toilet. The condition of the " Parivar Paramarsh Kendra' is pathetic. One wonders if any respectable family will like to sit there. The signboards are laden with dust and those in disuse are haphazardly piled against the boundary wall. Police Station's courtyard is overflowing with confiscated vehicles, weeds and piles of rubble.

Hundreds of motor vehicles lying here are in a bad state having been exposed to elements of nature for very long periods. The boundary wall is crumbling. All along the boundary wall one can see nothing but heaps of rubble and refuse. About the lighting of the building, drinking water facility and the reception room less said the better.

As in any other professions, policemen's performance is directly linked to their working conditions. If you want their performance to improve, give them some self respect by providing them reasonably good buildings to work from and comfortable houses to stay. Pity, scant attention is paid to this aspect. Results are before every one to see. All that they get is rough end of the stick.

Is any one listening?
