There was an advertisement in which a loving mom is shown asking for just two minutes to prepare noodles for the desperately hungry children. But that magic word 'two minutes' is not only confined to the fast food like noodles, as it has taken the traditional and regional food in its clutches. 'Ready to eat' stuff is available almost everywhere in the packing of pouches and tins. What you have to do is to cut, warm and eat. Traditional delicacies like Gulab Jamun, Dal-bati, Rajma-chawal, Kheer and Dal Makhani are available in tins under 'ready to eat' label.
Working women also find it handy as it saves a lot of time.
Ankita Rawat said that due to business these 'ready to eat' brands are very handy, you just can't change the circumstances. You have to work and then have to prepare meal also for family and yourself. In these conditions it is very handy top have 'ready to eat' stuff in the cupboard.
Shabnam Khan is a housewife; she has plenty of time and is also interested in cooking also. Still, she keeps 'ready to eat' stuff in stock. She believes that, when guests arrive, these stuffs are handy to add variety in the delicacies. 'Ready to eat' provide a good backup and some of them last for at least a year.
Aaditi Sharma said that with this trend there is a boom in the variety of delicacies, both veg and non veg, South Indian and North Indian delicacies, Chutneys and almost everything is available in tins and pouches.
Sufi Khan said that the price of 'ready to eat' things have also attracted the buyers. They are ranging between Rs 40 to Rs 45 and are sufficient for three people at least. In order to reduce the prices, companies are going for pouch packing instead tins.
Shop owners are also happy with this trend. According to Manish Ahuja of Ahuja Proteins, New Market, basically much demanded brands are Gits, MTR, Kissan, Duke, Ashirvad, Ready Bakers, Parampara, Secret of The Food and others. But customers also purchase local products, as they are comparatively cheaper. Among juice category, Real and Tropicana are hot favourite. Among hostel students, outsiders and college going youth these 'ready to eat' stuffs are serving as integral part of food.
