Bhopal Today Team

Bhopal, Apr 16: The renowned musicians have worked hard to improve the classical music. Late Jitendera Abhisheki was one such great musician who had diverse interests in arts and music.

Classical music is the oldest heritage of our country. Musicians at that time had given everything in life for the sake of music. Late Jitendera Abhisheki was one such great musician who had devoted his life for music and had diverse interests in arts and music. With the cooperation of the South Central Cultural Centre, Nagpur, the Tarangini Cultural Institute, Mumbai and National Centre for Human Settlements and Environment, Bhopal have organised the 'Late Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki Memorial Music Festival'. The presentation of the musicians and classical singers gathered from far and wide was so enchanting that the audience felt they were in a trance. The song starting 'Guru bin...' by Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki's son,Sonak Abhisheki under the 'Chaitra Prabhat' is to be particularly mentioned.

The programme was organised at the Subhash Utkrisht Vidyalaya, Shivaji Nagar. A large number of people interested in classical music attended the programme.

Music and Bhajan sung under different 'ragas' of classical music was the main attraction of the programme. Ustad Allauddin Khan Music & Arts Academy director Arun Palnitkar was the chief guest. Pandit Sudhakar Devle of Ujjain and Pandit Shounak Abhisheki presented vocal music. We talked with some persons related with the organisation -

Sharad Kanmadikar (Organiser) says that the classical music has its existence still in the society. Our main aim to organise this programme was to keep alive the 'Guru-Shishya' tradition.

Avinash Harkare, organising committee member says that such programmes will definitely liked by many in the society. The artists are always eager to serve the society through music. To some extent, we are successful through such programmes, he said.

Arvind Kelkar, who came to attend the programme said 'I was always interested to hear classical and vocal music. My whole family is interested in music and arts and are willing to serve both. 'Bhairavi' is my favourite 'Raga' which I also sing,'.

Smriti Kanmadikar says she was born in Gwalior. Her parents used to take her to the Tansen Festival since she was a child. Because of this I was interested in the music. I respect classical music, she said.

Dr. Sandhya Gadre, a gynaecologist who came to attend the programme said she was interested in classical music. 'I like 'Rag Yanab', she said. She said she used to sing also since her childhood.
