Panchayati Raj institutions which have come into existence with the 73rd amendment in constitution , have ensured proportional representation of one third posts for women belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Class. This is the reason that today in our villages the women are showing their presence in taking decisions in governmental processes with continuity and firmness.
The emerging success of the work field of women has proved that the elected women in panchayats are not only a shadow of any male. The hunger project press is committed to bring forth the stories of success of these women leaders with an aim to give them encouragement.
Studies reveal that women panchayat leaders playing pivotal role in planning of education, health and its implementation with the initiative of human development. With a view to encourage and highlight the role of women in society the hunger project announces Sarojini Naidu Awards-2008, to the journalists and electronic media persons.
This year the award would be given on two subjects- "Panchayatiraj Men Mahilayen- Har Bachche Ki Shiksha Tak Pahunch Banana" and Panchayatiraj Men Sabhi Mahilaon Ke Liye Prathmik Swasthya Sunishchit Karana. For the written articles in Hindi or English or in any other language, a cash prize would be given to the three journalists of print media.
Each of the winners would be given cash prize of Rs 2 lakh. The awards would be given for two published articles and these articles should have published between July 15, 2007 to July 15, 2008. The journalist can send their articles on any above mentioned subject.
For visual media the entry should have based on news or feature and its broadcasting on television should be up to minimum 5 minutes. The entries must reach up to July 15,2008 with 2 DVD, certificate of broadcasting, date and time.
The selection committee includes Dr George Mathew, Dr Shashi Kumar, Alok Mehta(editor Outlook), Prof. Neerja Gopal Jayal(JNU, New Delhi), Sushma Singh(secretary, panchayat and Rural Development, Govt. of India).
