Delimitation to alter political scene

By Our Staff Reporter

Bhopal, April 15: The Centre's decision to implement the report of delimitation commission on the reconstitution of parliamentary and assembly constituencies has affected political situation in Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh.

There has been an increase in the number of parliamentary and assembly seats from the region.

Apart from Sagar, Damoh and Khajuraho Lok Sabha seats, Tikamgarh would be a new Lok Sabha seat in the reserved category. Reservation status has been removed from Sagar seat.

State BJP Vice-President and Khajuraho MP Ramkrishna Kusmaria, Sagar MP Virendra Khateek, Minister of State Gangacharan Patel, former minister Sunil Nayak, SP legislator Vijay Kumar Bundela and BJP legislator Sushil Sirothia would have to chalk out fresh strategies under changed circumstances.

Under fresh guidelines, three assembly segments of Kurwai, Shamshadbad and Sironj have been attached with Sagar parliamentary seat. Bhanda, Deori and Rehli earlier with Sagar seat have now been attached with Damoh seat.

Khajuraho Lok Sabha seat has been reconfigured and seven assembly segments moved out into newly-formed Tikamgarh Lok Sabha seat. After fresh demarcation, Khajuraho seat now includes Chandla, Rajnagar, Pawai, Gunnor, Panna, Vijay Raghavgarh, Mudwara and Bohriband assembly segments.

Under changed circumstances, Kusumaria can be forced to contest from Damoh Lok Sabha constituency from where he had been elected four times earlier. Tikamgarh parliamentary seat consists Tikamgarh, Jatara, Nivadi, Prithvipur, Khargapur, Maharajpur, Chhatarpur and Bijawar assembly segments.

Redrawing of boundaries would lead to dominance of the Lodhi-Kurmi community in Damoh Lok Sabha constituency proving advantageous for BJP MP Chandrabhan Singh, who belongs to Lodhi community.

Deori, Rehli, Banda, Bada Malehra, Damoh, Pathria, Jabera and Hata assembly segments have been included in Damoh constituency. Amanganj and Nohta assembly seats stand eliminated, while new ones created include Prithvipur, Rajnagar, Gunnor and Jabera. Hata, Chandla and Jatara assembly seats would be reserved, while reservation status has been removed from Khurai, Khargapur and Maharjpur seats.

With the abolition of Nohta assembly segment, BJP legislator Dashrath Singh and former Congress legislator Ratnesh Saloman would face difficult situation.
