Indo African summit |
| Recently concluded Indo African summit in New Delhi has opened new vistas of development for the poor and developing countries of Africa. Close cooperation between India and Africa will benefit the two countries particularly Africa in many ways. India and Africa have been close neighbours historically and also geographically but these relations have never been so close. History tells us that a lover of Razia Sultana came from Africa. The father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi got the inspiration to get freedom for the country when he saw the pitiable condition of the black residents by their white masters. Even Gandhi suffered a raw deal at their hands while traveling in a train from which he was thrown out despite holding a valid ticket simply because he was not white and the Ist class compartment by which he was traveling was reserved for whites.
The friendly dialogue which has now been established between the two neighbours should have been established much before. It is hoped that the cooperation between India and African countries will help the latter's speedy development. Africa has a great potential for development. Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has done well to abolish the excise duty as a starting point which has been widely appreciated by the African countries themselves. As a result we should expect a sort of boom in our trade relations with Africans. The Prime Minister also offered to help the African countries in the field of science and technology including development of agriculture. Quite a number of Indians are settled in African countries and the increased bilateral relations between India and Africa will benefit them also.
