Backwards prosperity shows nation's richness: Advani

Chronicle News Service

Indore, April 14: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and former Dy PM Lalkrishna Advani has said that country's richness should not be gauged by the number of billionaires but by the quantum of prosperity attained by the weaker and backward sections of society. The nation would move forward only after accepting this parameter. He was addressing a mass gathering at Baba Saheb Ambedkar's birth place Ambedkar Nagar (Mhow) after inaugurating Ambedkar Memorial built at a cost of Rs 12 crore today. On this occasion Advani also unveiled a 14 feet high statue of Baba Saheb Ambedkar. Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh's Sah Sarkaryawaha Madan Das Ji Devi and CM Shivraj Singh were specially present.

Advani further said that a good government should be honest and credible. A good government hinges on development and education. Since problems like poverty have not been solved even 60 years after Independence, therefore we should look at these problems from the point of view of weakest person of society. At present inflation and dearness have touched all-time high. India can face it only when farmers get all the facilities. He said that Baba Saheb Ambedkar achieved everything in his life by the dint of hard work. This was his biggest speciality. He termed today's function as historic saying that birthplace of Dr Ambedkar is the most important of the three places associated with him. MP govt has perpetuated memories of Dr Ambedkar by constructing this memorial. The Bhumi Poojan of this memorial was performed 17 years ago but the construction gained momentum only during the last couple of years. Very few great persons like Dr Ambedkar have taken birth.

He has made an important contribution by preparing the Constitution of independent India. On the advice of Gandhiji, two non-Congress leaders were included in the first ministry formed after independence by Nehruji. They were Dr Ambedkar and Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. Dr Mukherjee was given Industry Ministry while Dr Ambedkar was made Law Minister. He said that even 60 years after Independence the need for converting Swaraj into Suraj (good governance) is being felt. The government which thinks about welfare of poor and weak people actually serves nation's interests and fulfils dreams of Dr Ambedkar. Making a mention of constant progress being made by Madhya Pradesh, Advani said that the governments of MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh are leaving no stone unturned in developing roads, power and water resources. These governments always think as to what more can be done for nation's development.

In his address, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the memorial of Baba Saheb Ambedkar is an article of faith. It was our duty to complete it. Now, it has been decided to take up beautification work here and a light and sound programme would be started which would be based on the life of Baba Saheb Ambedkar. Permanent Dharmshalas would be constructed for the pilgrims coming to Ambedkar Nagar. Ambedkar Nagar would be an important place on country's tourism map. The state government would organise Ambedkar Mahakumbh here every year. Pilgrims from all over India would come here and return with inspiration for love for nation after having Darshan of the memorial. Giving the message of equality-oriented India, Dr Ambedkar had said that 'We are Indians first and last.
