Mumbai, April 13: India's first country report on safety of the civilian nuclear plants will be presented by Chairman of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) S K Sharma at the two-week-long Convention of Nuclear Safety (CNS) beginning on Monday in Vienna.

Sharma will present the 200-page report along with 70 questions raised by the other countries as part of the Peer Review of the National Report at the CNS on April 17.

He was being accompanied by 17 top officials from Nuclear Power Corporation Of India (NPCIL), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and AERB. CNS has devoted one full day on April 17 for India's Country Report on Nuclear Safety.

India joined the Convention in 2005 and "this will be our first National Report on the safety of civilian nuclear plants," Sharma said.

"Although nuclear power plants all over the world are operating at a very high level of safety and we have different means of exchanging information on safety, the CNS would further strengthen the safety of operating nuclear power plants," he said.

Sixty-one countries will be participating in the Convention and there will be six groups each comprising 10 countries with a chairman, vice-chairman and a rapporteur.
