Faisalabad, Apr 12:
Salman Butt hammered a half century Friday, and Pakistan recorded a seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in a rain-shortened, second one-day international.
The left-handed opener scored 76 off 72 balls with nine fours and a six, while Mohammad Yousuf made an unbeaten 32 of 30 balls as Pakistan romped to its revised target of 158 in 23.2 overs under the Duckworth and Lewis Method for the loss of three wickets.
Opening batsman Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah had made fighting half centuries in Bangladesh's modest total of 225-8 as rain curtailed the visitors' innings to 48.2 overs.
Yousuf, who scored a century in Pakistan's 152-run win in the first match of the five-game series at Lahore on Tuesday, also reached the 9,000-run mark in one-day internationals when he was on 19.
He is only the second Pakistani batsman, after former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, to make more than 9,000 runs in limited-overs games.
Butt and Nasir Jamshed gave Pakistan a quick start of 42 to its run-chase before Jamshed was bowled by left-arm spinner Sakib Al Hasan for 21 in the eighth over.
After Younis Khan (13) was bowled by Farhad Reza, Yousuf and Butt scored at will against all six bowlers, adding 73 runs off 63 balls for the third wicket. Butt was run out off a direct throw from captain Mohammad Ashraful when Pakistan was only seven runs away from victory.
Earlier, Iqbal hit a chancy 60 off 78 balls with 10 fours, but it was Mahmudullah's career-best 58 not out off 74 deliveries that gave Bangladesh's total some respectability.
Legspinner Shahid Afridi (3-33) had pegged back Bangladesh in the middle overs with three wickets that included Iqbal, who was well caught on the edge of the boundary by Umar Gul. Jamshed had let off Iqbal on 20 when he dropped a low catch at square leg off Gul.
Mahmudullah dominated the seventh-wicket stand of 79 runs off 83 deliveries with wicketkeeper-batsman Dhiman Ghosh (27), who fell in the 47th over in an attempt to accelerate the scoring.
Bangladesh's top order failed to capitalize on a good batting track, devoid of grass, after Ashraful won the toss and opted to bat first.
Shahriar Nafees (4), Hasan (4) and Aftab Ahmed (1) all fell cheaply, before Ashraful played some aggressive shots.
Ashaful (22) achieved a personal landmark when he became the highest Bangladeshi scorer in one-day internationals, surpassing former captain Habibul Bashar's tally of 2,168 runs in 111 matches.
Playing in his 115th one-day international, Ashraful hammered paceman Gul for three boundaries in an over before Rao Iftikhar (2-34) had him trapped leg-before-wicket.
Playing in only his sixth one-day international, Mahmudullah stabilized the innings with Ghosh and completed his well-deserved maiden half century with a boundary off paceman Sohail Tanvir, who ended up with 2-36. Mahmudullah hit six fours before rain curtailed Bangaldesh's innings.
The third match of the series will be played at Lahore on Sunday.
