New Delhi, April 12:
Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar had a narrow escape on Friday, along with 90 other passengers of a Kingfisher flight, when the plane made an emergency landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The Delhi-Mumbai flight (IT 310) landed back at the airport about 20 minutes after takeoff when the pilot detected a snag and received a smoke warning.
The A 321 aircraft made a landing in full emergency conditions. All passengers were reported safe.
The plane had taken off at around 2 pm and had to be escorted back to the bay after landing. "There seemed to be a leakage in the aircraft," an airport source said.
"Fire tenders and security personnel were rushed to the spot as a full emergency was declared," he said. The plane resumed its journey at 4 pm after the snag was rectified.
Patel was reportedly sent in another aircraft to Mumbai. "The Directorate General of Civil Aviation informed the Civil Aviation Ministry that there was a minor snag in the aircraft that was carrying Mr.
Patel. The jet exhaust had leaked into the AC ducts but there was no smoke in the cabin," said a ministry spokeswoman.
"The flight returned after the snag was detected," she said. In a similar incident earlier this month, another Kingfisher flight had to land back at the Hyderabad airport after smoke started coming from cargo in the aircraft.
