Development
is considered to be the symbol for progress. For proper development
there is planning. And a number of units work for the implementation
of the plans. With the mutual coordination of these units
a new chapter in development is written. Units may be of national
or state level for the development. Projects costing crores
of rupees bring fruits due to the honest work of the grassroot
workers. Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission is
under implementation in Madhya Pradesh. The mission involves
expenditure of funds amounting to Rs 250,000 crores. It has
come to notice that under this Mission, works are being undertaken
which are not directly related with it. In other words we
can say that common people would not get any benefit from
these works. In the State capital Bhopal, the amount of the
mission is being spent for the beautification of roads. On
the one hand selected places are being beautified and on the
other the roads are shrinking due to encroachments. This is
not only happening in Bhopal but other big cities are also
facing same problem. Shanties have been allowed to mushroom
on valuable plots courtesy vote politics. In this race of
encroachment the speed of development work slows down. Authorities
and Corporations are working for the development of big cities.
In this way all such development units can bring sea-change
of cities/towns. However, all is not well. Water crisis is
prevailing in cities. Traffic system is in jeopardy. No one
is there to listen to the woes of the common man. Government
is talking about development. If these development schemes
are connected directly with the people then it is meaningful.
Beauty of roads is welcome if people also get their basic
needs fulfilled.
