In
the very first week of April month, people in several parts
of the State have started experiencing drinking water problem.
Water level of Rajghat dam in Sagar is decreasing rapidly
and now ventilator is being used. Most of the districts of
Bhopal, Hoshangabad, Rewa, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Chambal, Indore
and Ujjain divisions are facing adverse conditions due to
shortage of drinking water. People living in remote areas
of Kumbhraj and Raghaugarh of Guna district have to struggle
to fetch water. The villagers have to make arrangements for
drinking water, treading miles. The residents of Damoh, Rajgarh,
Vidisha, Ganjbasoda, Sehore, Itarsi and Multai areas are facing
acute shortage of drinking water. The same situation prevails
in the other areas of the State. As the ground water level
has gone down, the handpumps are going out of order. Wells
are drying and water level of reservoirs is decreasing rapidly.
The administration is making efforts to provide water through
tankers but this is not possible in large scale. For permanent
solution of water crisis there is need to work under special
work plan. The State received insufficient rainfall this year
and whatever it received the administration did not make arrangements
to collect rainwater. There is need to conserve rain water.
It is important to note that shortage of water is going to
affect Hydro Electric projects. Instead of thinking over water
at the eleventh hour, the administration ought to take initiatives
to find out permanent solution. There is shortage of 350mw
power from the Centre as Vindhyachal's 500mw unit is out of
order. Similarly, Sarni unit of 210mw is also out of order.
The residents of the state need relief.
