Increase facility of grain storage: Keep middlemen away

The farmers of the State have been facing the vagaries of weather. Uneven weather and sometimes additional rainfall ruin the crops most. Change in weather cycle is the main reason of it. For last several days thunderstorm, rainfall and hails have damaged the crops and agricultural produce. Recently due to untimely rains the standing crops of farmers and crops which were cut got ruined. The farmers are also facing problems in proper storing of foodgrains. The storage facilities ought to be in the fields too. The crops should be taken straighway to godowns after harvesting. The farmers can take loan against the deposited grains and start further preparation. The tendency of black marketing can be checked if the grains of the farmers reach straightway in godowns. Untimely rainfall had affected the farmers' crops this time. When the grains get damaged due to rains, the middle men are the first to take advantage. The government purchase of foodgrains is running behind its target. Even though the government has made provisions for purchase of damaged wheat of farmers yet to what extent the farmers would be able to reap benefits is not known. The administration and agriculture experts should devise ways to save the farm produce. As it has been stated above that the storage is a big problem and due to lack of warehouses the farmers have to compromise with middle men in disposal of grains. Hence it is essential that grain storage facility is provided and the capacity of the godowns is increased. This would foil the middle men's designs to exploit the farmers and discourage blackmarketing of essential items. Both the farmers and the consumers would gain from new measures urgently needed for preserving agricultural produce.
