World Health Day observed

Bhopal, Apr 7: The Multipurpose Youth Friendly Centre, Jigyasa, an initiative of Regional Technical Centre FPA India supported by Department of Public Health & family welfare, RCH-II, on Monday organised a health awareness programme on the occasion of World Health Day.

World Health Day, marks the founding of the World Health Organisation and is an opportunity to draw worldwide attention to a subject of major importance to global health each year. This year World Health Day focuses on the need to protect health from the adverse effects of climate change.

The programme was conducted at Community Centre, Sai Baba Nagar wherein 120 women, youth and children participated. Dinesh Prasad emhasised that a healthy person is one who is physically, mentally and emotionally fit. Dr Jyoti Benawri, Manager Medical & Training, FPA India said that strengthening surveillance and control of infectious diseases, ensuring safer use of diminishing water supplies can definitely protect our health She stressed upon the need of personal, Community and environmental hygiene.

SK Dubey, District Coordinator sensitised the community on the harmful effects of cutting trees and use of polythene bags. He said that we have to come forward and work together to protect the environment. The special highlight of the programme was the Nukkad Show on the issue of protecting health and environment.

Red Cross Society

The whole world celebrates World Health Day on April 7. This year, the theme was 'health care in change of environment'. The Red Cross Society's MP Branch has observed the World Health Day.

The MP Red Cross Society has organised a seminar on the World Health Day with the blessings of MP Red Cross Society president and the Governor. The seminar was conducted under the guidance of chairman Mukesh Nayak. The governor in his message said that 'fortunately, in Madhya Pradesh, the situation due to change in climate is not alarming like other places in the country and in the world. But immediate action is needed to protect our rivers, forests, lakes, etc so that people in the state is not adversely affected.'

Secretary General of Red Cross Society in India, Dr SP Agrawal in his message from New Delhi said 'change of climate is a real danger to the life of humans animals, and plants. In our country the temperature goes upto 50 degree Celcius at some places while heavy rains causes flood. For example, in july 2005, the heavy flood in Mumbai caused death to around 1000 persons while the damage to property was worth around Rs 170 crores. In 2006 flood caused havoc in Surat and other places in Rajasthan.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) director general Margaret Chhan, in her message said that there was agreement between the International Red Cross Society/ Federation and the WHO to combat such natural calamities. She further said that unless we take seriously about the work related to protect our health due to the change in climate , it would be difficult to attain the Millenium Development Goal. The result will be against the health and progress of the mankind.

Deputy Secretary Dr Harnath Singh Patedl explained the technical details of the programe. Deputy Secretary Dr BK Shrivastava informed about expected dangers due to climate change. MP Red Cross Society secretary NN Tiwari said that for humankind itself is responsible for the present dangerous situation. But he said, the problem created by us could be solved by ourselves.

Dr Prerna Thapa, Dr Arpana Tiwar, Dr Vinita Pathak, Dr Hitansh Sharma, Dr Garg, Dr Virendra Singh, Ganesh Dibe, Dinesh Arya, Anil Jain, DVS Shastri, Sunil Panikar and all staff of the Red Cross were present on the occasion.
