Stepping up its campaign against the banned outfit Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), Madhya Pradesh police today arrested one more activist from Indore, official sources said today.
Naved Irfan, who worked as a service engineer at a two-wheeler showroom in the state capital, was today arrested from Indore. Meanwhile, two SIMI activists, Kamaruddin and Akil Pervez, who were arrested by police recently, were being sent to Bangalore for narco analysis. Kamaruddin is brother of arrested SIMI chief Safdar Nagori.
Besides, narco analysis of two other activists, Abdul Razzak and Raisa, was being carried out in Ahmedabad. A report from Indore said a training site of SIMI was located in Choral forest near Indore and explosives and other materials seized from there.
So far, police have arrested about 50 SIMI activists and supporters from various parts of Madhya Pradesh including 22 from Indore and five from Jabalpur. A report from Jabalpur said police have launched search to nab Mohammad Ali, who allegedly raised funds for SIMI. Ali has gone underground after the crackdown on SIMI.
Police have seized a letter sent by a Mumbai-based SIMI activist Abdullah written in Urdu from Sheikh Sarfraz. There have been reports about SIMI office bearers holding secret meeting in Jabalpur after the recent crackdown.
Former SIMI activists being interrogated
After arresting about 50 activists of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) recently, police are interrogating other people formerly related with the banned outfit. Superintendent of Police Jaideep Prasad clarified that police has not arrested or take into custody any former activist. Parrying questions about the number of main SIMI activists among them, he said police were interrogating about 8-10 activists as a part of routine procedure.
Additional SP (Old City) Hemanth Singh Chouhan said police were interrogating such people who were in the police list from before.
Three SIMI activists detained
Tightening its net around the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), Madhya Pradesh police have detained three alleged SIMI activists from this district. Police sources said the trio were being interrogated in the presence of Raghogarh Sub-Divisional Officer of Police.
However, police officials refused to divulge further details. Further action would be taken following interrogation.
