Water
crisis is becoming a major problem now. Right from now onwards
if efforts for its conservation are not made then in the coming
days there would be havoc everywhere. In this context, the
state Finance Minister, Raghavji Bhai's statement should be
welcomed that water harvesting should be made compulsory for
new buildings and it should also be implemented strictly.
He also said that electric department should not give connections
to those who do not adopt water harvesting in their buildings.
Finance Minister on Wednesday was addressing a district level
meeting of Jalabhishek programme. Jalabhishek programme which
is being run for last few years could not give expected results.
Only the efforts of government agencies are not sufficient
to increase ground water level. Along with the water conservation
and augmentation the cooperation of common man to save water
is necessary otherwise the success is impossible. In this
age of global warming, water is the greatest concern. Ground
water level in most of the cities of the state has gone down.
Other parts of the city are also facing water shortage. Even
jungles are facing water crisis and the condition of rivers
is no good. The tendency of conserving forests and planting
more trees should also be developed. There is need to avoid
burning of leaves and small plants in the jungles. They play
a major role to stop water during rainy season. Leaves and
small plants help water reach beneath the soil. Similarly,
water used in homes flows through drains. The same happens
with rain water. If each house adopts water harvesting system
then not only the ground water level would increase but the
wells, ponds and tube wells would get water continuously.
This system should be adopted willingly. Awareness among the
common people is also necessary. The educated people of the
society should come forward to cooperate in this work.
