Terrorism
is the greatest challenge before the new democratic government
of Pakistan. Escalating prices of essential items, unemployment,
corruption, anarchy remain a problem and cannot be underestimated.
However, a new beginning for a better and peaceful life has
been made. President Pervez Musharraf would be seen in a new
role now. By announcing that the Army would be sent to the
barracks in two weeks time, Pervez has made it clear that
from nowonwards there would not be any interference by the
Army in administration matters. Pak Army Chief, General Ashfaq
Pervez Kiyani gave information about security issues in a
meeting attended by allies of the Govt. The meeting centred
on facing the challenges of terrorism, extremism and to decide
strategy for economic development. Former Prime Minister and
PMLN head, Nawaz Sharif and PPP joint president, Asif Ali
Zardari were also present in the meeting. Meanwhile, former
Pakistan Human Rights Minister, Ansar Burney is in India.
His main objective is to collect proof regarding innocence
of Sarabjeet facing death sentence in Pakistan. It is hoped
that Burney's visit would help bring relief to the innocent
Indians imprisoned in Pakistani jails. A new wave has started
in Pakistan and this country would shape its new image in
the coming days. But, it is necessary to maintain better relations
with India and a good atmosphere in South Asia. Though, earlier
President Pervez Musharraf too had given importance to the
improvement of relations with India. It needs to be carried
forward. There is need to maintain better relations on political
and business level. Pakistani Prime Minister should visit
India for strengthening bilateral relations.
