Many nullahs still connected with lakes

By Our Staff Reporter

Bhopal, Apr 6: Bhoj Wet land had spent Rs 56 crore for laying sewage network to save upper and lower lakes of the capital but even after these efforts dirty water of nullahs is flowing into them.

Municipal Commissioner, Nikunj Kumar Shrivastava reviewing both the lakes directed for increasing capacity of sewage pumps and to remove irregularities. Bhoj Wetland Project had completed different works spending Rs 250 crore in the capital.

These developmental activities included laying work of sewage network and to brudle the nullahs which flow into Lower and Upper lakes. In this connection 13 sewage pump houses of 23 MGD and 5 sewage treatment plants were set up. Along with this Ginnori and Fatehgarh pump houses were improved.

Even after it dirty water of nullahs is flowing into both the lakes. Corporation commissioner inspected the work and the officials gave him information during his inspection that the sewage pump house of Ginnori having capacity of only 3 MGD, whereas water of 8 MGD flows here. As the pump house has less capacity so the dirty water flows into lower lake.

The commissioner directed the ADB officials to increase the capacity of this pump house and to construct an additional sump tank of sewage. On the other hand dirty water of Shirin river near Koh-e-Fiza over flowing and meets into upper lake. Along with this in Bairagarh area , Nullah diversion system has got damaged and its dirty water reaches into upper lake.

Where are the sewage pump house- Banganga, Kotra Sultanabad, Patra, VIP Road at Garam Gaddha, Vardhman Park, Khanoo gaon, Indira Nagar Bairagarh, Behata village, Sehore Naka Bairagarh, Laukhedi, Tilak Nagar Airport Road Lalghati , Ahmedabad in Koh-e-Fiza, Ginnori and Fatehgarh.

Location of treatment plants

Nullahs' water is pumped to the treatment plants of Badwai-Gandhi Nagar, Gondarmau, Mahouli, Damkheda and Kotra. Dirty water is treated here and later it is released to BOD(Bio Chemical Oxygen Demand) where it is used for irrigation through Kaliasot river and adjoining nullahs.

PHE to merge into municipal corporation- At around half of the sewage line and all the pump houses and treatment plants are under Public Health Engineering Department, whereas the remaining line of the other areas comes under corporation. Whenever it creates problem in sewage line then both the departments stop work and blame each other. It creates many problems.

Mayor, Sunil Sood in this connection would write a letter to government for merging PHE staff into Municipal Corporation.
