Bhopal, Apr 6: Madhya Pradesh is at the topmost position in the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. The state tops in all respects including receipt of funds under the scheme from the Union government, its expenditure, creation of mandays of employment and completion of works.

The state had received funds to the tune of Rs 3129.24 crore during the year 2007-08 under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. Against these funds, amount to the tune of Rs 2504.52 crore has been spent so far.

This is a demand-oriented scheme. So far, 41,41,989 families in the state have demanded employment against which 41,41,826 families have been provided jobs. During the period under review 2434.42 lakh mandays' worth employment was made available under the scheme in Madhya Pradesh. Out of the total created mandays, employment was provided to 17.51 percent scheduled caste people, 49.39 percent scheduled tribes beneficiaries, 42.36 percent women and 33.12 percent other beneficiaries.

In all, two lakh 92 thousand 259 works were started under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme out of which 96 thousand 304 works have been completed while one lakh 95 thousand 955 works are under progress.
