S C Mishra resigns as SFDC chief

Lucknow, Apr 5: Satish Chandra Mishra, senior BSP leader and close aide of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, has resigned as the Chairman of the State Film Development Council (SFDC).

Mishra submitted his resignation yesterday and it has been accepted by Mayawati, official sources said today.

As Chairman of SFDC, Mishra enjoyed the status of a cabinet minister.

Though he has not cited any reason for his resignation, sources said that Mishra put in his papers to represent the party in the on-going legal cases in different courts.

A cabinet rank person may have problems in appearing before courts, sources said.

Mishra, a Rajya Sabha MP, was inducted into the Mayawati ministry in May last.

However, he resigned from the Cabinet in November to retain his RS seat.

He was not given any independent portfolio but was entrusted with the task of looking after departments held by Chief Minister.

Mishra is also the State Advisory Council Chairman.
