Ornaments hold special significance in Indian tradition and culture and that's why it was mandatory for both men and women to wear ornaments not only on special occasions, festivals and celebrations but usally, since ancient times.
No need to say, ornament is first choice of every woman. There is hardly any, who detests precious gold and silver ornaments. Since ages, women like and of course there was craze for gold and silver ornaments, but now this 'craze' is changing slowly.
As the life style of people is rapidly changing so the likings also. It happened with the ornaments too, gold ornament is first choice of every woman yet while going to party or marriage women do not put on gold ornaments. Heat is increasing day by day, so in such burning climate women try not to wear heavy gold ornaments. Going to party without ornaments also considered as a prestige issue.
In order to meet the demands of woman, goldsmiths brought solution for heavy ornaments. Goldsmiths created new ornaments from lightweight metal in various designs to attract women and they have succeed in their endeavour in wooing not only women customers but young generation also.
At present precious stones are available in different colours and types in the market. Ornaments created of these beautiful stones can be used with matching dresses. Besides funky jewellery is also available for the youths to look different from the crowd. This funky jewellery is created from plastics, bead and leather.
Besides Nistha, Tanisque, Ashmi, Nakshatra and Platinum jewellery are famous these days.
Till date gold jewellery was consider superior to all ornaments but in the present scenario platinum jewellery overcame it and in popularity. White Platinum jewellery gives glamorous look to the personality.
Young generation have no attraction for gold, in stead they prefer big rounds, pedants, beads and leather items.
Payal, a student of Nutan College said that every time it is not possible to wear heavy gold ornaments, especially in the summer. So it is better to put on lightweight funky jewellery.
Lajwanti Chauhan said, I prefer lightweight jewellery. In marriage ceremonoes we like to wear precious jewellery but in parties our option is for funky jewellery. I prefer Tanisque designed ornaments, she added.
Madhu Koshte said, I feel very suffocating when I put on heavy ornaments. So I prefer lightweight ornaments.
Women Finance Development Corporation President Anju Singh Bagel said that as every woman, she too likes ornaments, but she prefers lightweight ornaments. She likes gold and diamond jewellery.
Mayank Gupta of Rajshree Collections said that though women prefer gold ornaments yet they don't like huge and heavy ornaments. Even youth too prefer beautifully designed lightweight ornaments.
Youth prefer funky jewellery rather than that of traditional jewellery with western dresses. Especially, girls like funky jewellery to look different in the crowd. Besides they also prefer round pedants created from copper.
At present girls are inclined to use African type huge plastic beads around the neck. Rajesh Sony, working in Rajshree showroom, said that girls prefer antique fancy stones. Above all platinum is first choice of every one that matches to every dress. It may be mentioned here that platinum ornaments were used in Latin America in 2000. After some time and modification it came to India.
