Power shortage in State: Power banking may bring relief

Power cut has been imposed in divisional headquarters (leaving capital Bhopal) since Monday morning. Power cut in divisions would be for two hours. Similarly, 6 hours power cut in district headquarters and 9 hours in tehsils is being effected. Villages are receiving power supply 7 hours for three phase and 5 hours for single phase connections. It means the villages are receiving 12 hours less power supply. Power cut in divisions has been stopped due to the exams at noon. Supply of electricity is related to common life. In the power shortage condition it affects common life directly and finally it becomes a cause of trouble for government and administration. Four units have started power production, which were out of order due to technical reasons. It includes two units of Sarni thermal power house. But the state is receiving 200mw less power supply from Centre quota. As power supply from Damodar Valley power production unit was not received due to the axing 200mw power supply. It has been stopped since Monday. At present the availability of power is 4700mw, whereas the demand is of 5800mw. The state government requires 1000mw additional power supply to fulfil its demand. Though, the new unit of Birsinghpur is likely to start from April 3, 2008. But it would not be sufficient. During the less demand period the government had made banking of electricity. Now, exercise to encash it, should be made. If it is not possible then power should be purchased to fulfill the demand. Dependency on power has increased in present scenario. State government should try to solve power crisis to facilitate common people. Otherwise, people would face problem, the government would also have to face music.
