Nominees' defeat shameful: Congress needs deep thinking for future

All the three BJP candidates won their seats in the Rajya Sabha election on Friday in the state. It is indeed a great achievement for state BJP because it was a tough situation to secure votes for third candidate and the state BJP leadership somehow succeeded in this effort. All the three winning candidates secured 58 votes each. BJP deserves to be congratulated for this success, but Congress supported candidate and famous advocate, Vivek Tankha's defeat is shameful for the Congress. One of its important reasons is that Congress strategy was weak in comparison to BJP. Congress could not decide on any candidate at the party-level and it not only supported independent candidate, Vivek Tankha, but confused him that his victory is sure. Congress was unable to bring non-BJP MLAs(Besides SP), in its favour. This was very shameful for Congress leadership. It would also affect state politics. Congress party would have to struggle in all the coming elections to maintain its existence. The new leadership would have to tread very carefully. It would be fair to say in the present scenario that the best performance of BJP in Rajya Sabha election and defeat of Congress supported candidate, the Congress party would have to step very carefully. BJP coming out from doubtful situations also won the third seat of Rajya Sabha. But the desire of Congress party to win a single seat remained only a wishful thinking. Congress would have to think seriously to face these challenges in future.
