Agencies

New Delhi March 28: Days after computer manufacturing major Dell announced its foray into the Indian retail market, LG Electronics, announced its plans to strengthen its retail presence in the personal computer (PC) business. The company has joined hands with large retail chains like Croma, Reliance Digital, Metro Cash and Carry, Jumbo Electronics, Hypercity, Next, E zone and More (The Aditya Birla retail chain).

The company is designing exclusive models, including placing trained promoters and focusing on branding and display in large retail chains. Through these efforts, LG hopes to be present in over 200 stores by the end of the year.

Commenting on the new initiatives, V Ramachandran, director - sales and marketing, LG Electronics India, said, "The sudden growth in the large format retail sector has taken everyone by surprise. The vendors believe that the market would be pretty big, running into hundreds of millions of dollars. We have received an overwhelming response from consumers and partners on this initiative. LG's nationwide presence and strong service network has a critical role to play in the success of the same."

He further added, "Retail being the focus for the year, is seeing increased display range in large format stores as far as LG PCs are concerned. Consumers enjoy the touch and feel factor as far as electronic items are concerned. Also, it is encouraging for the partners to see the expansion in our retail forte. It is indeed a win-win situation for us as far as consumers and channel partners are concerned."
