No price cut due to Nano: Maruti Suzuki

Agencies

Kolkata, March 28: Maruti Suzuki India on Thursday reiterated that it is not losing sleep over the impending launch of the Nano and added it has no plan to slash the price of Maruti 800 to take on the Tatas' small car.

"We will not cut the price of Maruti 800," Maruti Suzuki India managing executive officer (production) M M Singh said, ruling out any possibility of the company either phasing out this model or launching a cheaper car.

"We are waiting to see how the market responds to the Nano," he said, when asked whether he anticipated a drop in the company's sales once the Tata car is commercially launched later this year.

Singh said Maruti intends to focus on bigger cars to cater to the growing aspirations of Indians. It rolled out the DZire in Kolkata on Thursday.

"The production of the A-Star model will start in October this year. This car will be launched in the first quarter of 2009," he added.
