Safeguard womanhood from perverted social system

By Our Staff Reporter

Bhopal, Mar 27: The leaders of the state unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), including state vice president Captain VP Singh, President of Women's Wing Chandana Arora, general secretary nusrat Ali, Omi Rao and Raju Bhatnagar, in an open letter addressed to the enlightened society and copy endorsed to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, President Ms Pratibha Patil, Chief Justice of India, Governor Dr Balram Jakhar, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Justice of MP, Home Minister and the media, on Thursday urged the whole civilised society to take a stand in favour of womanhood who have suffered indignities just because they dared go to a thana to file a report, to abhore the perverted social system that runs in police stations.

Citing the incident of Govindpura police station, where a woman, Chaman Bai, allegedly caught hold of an officer's collar, and might have shown disrespect towards the law of the land. They maintained that the episode that happened at Govindpura Police Station is just a beginning, not the end of a very brutal fight. ``We are determined to fight against the prejudiced manner adopted by the policemen at every police station level against women victims that come for protection and support. We have enough evidence against SI Dangi, of his act of illegally detaining a woman complainant, of the foul language he used with women demonstrators, of his demeaning attitude towards our party members who tried to talk to him amicably.''

They mentioned that ` `cases would be filed in different courts against the erring SI on all accounts, and he would be on trial for much more than our alleged offenders. In effect, during the hearing of the case filed by the police against our party members, the untruth of the accusations will be proved, as well as the reason why any violence if ever, erupted at the police station that day. And we do solemnly promise that while filing our complaints against the crimes of the police station staff and SI Dangi, we shall not revert to anything unholy. We shall not file false charges to get justice.''

The letter informed that ''Our fight is not against any one officer or thana. We fight against the general idea, the general belief of a cop that he has the right to sit in judgment seat over a woman and call a woman characterless and decide she is not worth giving any protection too and he thus avoids doing his duty.

Through the letter they pleaded to the entire society to think, understand and feel the pinch of anger against such behavior from those dishonour their uniform. Now, each police officer will have to guard his tongue, guard his behaviour, while dealing with women, the release added.
