BMC must modernize/computerize

When one receives SMS through Mobile from Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), reminding denizens about due date of payment of property or other legitimate taxes, one wonders why not the Bhopal Municipal Corporation also introduce such innovative schemes/methodology in this age of technology. What is the hiccup for the BMC which is a prestigious corporation in the capital city of the State? Needless to mention that other Corporations in the State like Gwalior, Jabalpur and Indore have already adopted such modernization/computerization programmes much earlier.

One hopes the present Commissioner BMC who is quite young and highly skilled who also has the track record of holding charge of the Gwalior Municipal Corporation, would do the needful in this direction early. Already he has shown his presence felt in the city where lots of arrangements/improvements in parking slots, particularly the marked development in T.T. Nagar business hub, where buyers can now easily walk around for shopping, are praise-worthy.

In so far as modernization/computerization is concerned, he has to find out the young and suitably qualified, talented staff from within the Corporation at the out-set and then, if need be, engage qualified ones from open market. At present, there is no scope for the in-house staff due to complete sluggishness in career uplift and the attitude of the old staff that are adept to doing only manual works, which hampers the Corporation's image. It is high time that the BMC must introduce computerized works in its ward offices, hooked up with its Zonal Centres which in turn can be linked up with the Master Control at the BMC Hqrs. Sadar Manzil through the LAN and WAN modes.

In the modernized scheme of things, even denizens can make online payments of taxes and if facilities other modernized corporations have introduced are adopted by the BMC, it can further improve and activate the tax collection methodology to increase its income for lots of other planned improvement/beautification of the city.
