This refers to the report that Makhdoom Amin Fahim has endorsed Zardari's name for the post of the Prime Minister of Pakistan. What else poor Makhdoom Amin Fahim could do if not make virtue of bad situation? He was the man who kept the PPP afloat when Benazir was in exile. He was the senior Vice-President of the PPP.
After Benazir he was said to be the most outstanding PPP leader .In the normal course, therefore he should have been the right choice for the post of the Prime Minister of Pakistan. But this was not to be.
Benazir's tragic death brought the super schemer, Benazir's husband, Asif Zardari to the fore. Fahim was sidelined. In this world of sycophants where every one is with the rising Sun, Fahim had no alternative but to stage a graceful retreat and propose the name of Zardari for the post of the Prime Minister of Pakistan. He might have compromised his self-respect but that was the only alternative left for him. For his loyalty he may be rewarded with an important ministry. Something is better than becoming a nonentity in the ordained scheme of things. Also, the development has the American seal stamped on it. In American calculation Benazir's husband, Zardari will be a better bet because of Bhutto family's charisma than a relatively little known Fahim whose influence is limited to Sind. All in all, it is realpolitik.
