My heart bleeds

Incidents of the past few days in Mumbai, Nasik and other parts of Maharashtara have pained and ashamed all Indians. Every citizen of India has a constitutional right to live and earn living in any part of India. These events are nothing but a flagrant violation of the Constitution which should be curbed at the earliest. In fact, those doing this do not deserve to belong to 'Maha-rashtra'. The following is a poetic voice of my heart for these events.

City of joy, opportunities, and glamour

City of wealth, wit and humour,

City of cricket, films and vigour,

City of health, hotels and Reliance power

The picture today is really grim and gory.

It is Mumbai but with a different story,

It is a city of arson, crime, lynching and fire,

It is a city where Indians kill each other,

It is a city where west hates north and south

It is city where neighbour targets neighbour.

Is it India of my dreams? Or

Is it India shining?

Where is the law, order and the Constitution?

Where is the democracy the world admired?

Where has the 'Ahimsa' of the Mahatma gone?

Where is 'Gandhigiri'?

Do you hear the murmurs from the trains,

Leaving Bandra of fleeing frightened Mumbaikars.

Yes, they are saying something they thought they will never say,

'SALAM MUMBAI'

Dr Syed Naim Zahir, Bhopal
