No release of Pak prisoner for Sarabjit: India

Agencies

New Delhi, Mar 20: Government on Thursday said that no Pakistani prisoner would be released in exchange of Sarabjit Singh, who is on death row in that country.

"We have appealed to the Pakistani government and we hope that Pakistan will hear our appeal. Nobody will be released in exchange," Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal said.

President Pervez Musharraf yesterday deferred the execution of Sarabjit fixed for April one by 30 days after the Indian government made a formal appeal for clemency on Wednesday.

Sarabjit was sentenced to death in 1991 for his alleged involvement in four bomb blasts in Lahore and Multan that killed 14 people. His family denies he is a spy as claimed by Pakistan and insists he accidentally strayed into Pakistani territory.
