Polytechnics in 7 districts: Target emerging sectors subjects

Seven new polytechnics would be established in Madhya Pradesh. Narmada Ghati Development Minister Nagendra Singh announced in the State assembly that the new Polytechnics would be established in Katni, Rewa, Shajapur, Raisen, Datia, Anooppur and Mandsaur districts. For the purpose, a proposal had been forwarded to the Union government. The move of the State government should be welcomed but in this connection it is also essential that the courses in the polytechnics be included as per the requirements for the industries. Looking to the investment scenario in the State, it is equally necessary to prepare youth for running the concerning industries. The State is witnessing investment in oil refineries, spinning mills, and other sectors. Looking to the investments taking place in different fields, the importance of polytechnic colleges would certainly go up. At the same time there would be need for technical and qualified people in different fields. The number of engineering colleges in the State too has gone up considerably. But, still polytechnics have their own importance. Study in the government polytechnics is cheaper compared to the engineering colleges. The opening of new polytechnics in different districts would bring much needed relief to the aspiring students. After opening of these institutes, it would also be necessary to maintain their standards. Lab facility is one such requirement as also the availability of qualified staff. The food processing industry is an emerging sector in India. At the moment the packaging of most of the processed food products is not up to the mark. Hence these polytechnics could cover courses related to the subject. India has a comparative advantage in selling its agricultural products at competitive prices in the international market.
