New Delhi, Mar 19:
Some members of the 1983 World Cup winning team today appealed to the BCCI not to isolate some of their teammates, including the then captain Kapil Dev who has associated with the Indian Cricket League, from silver jubilee celebrations for the historic feat.
Opener K Srikkanth and Yashpal Sharma feel BCCI should forget the bitterness which recently crept in its relationship with four players -- Kapil, Madan Lal, Sandeep Patil and Balwinder Singh Sandhu -- for aligning with the breakaway Twenty20 league and honour the whole team for their June 25 achievement.
The BCCI has been put in an embarassing position as it had severed all relationships with players aligning with the ICL.
Srikkanth said BCCI should forget all the bad memories and invite everyone for the proposed function.
"I think they should call and honour everyone for their historic achievement," he said.
Yashpal also echoed the sentiments of his former team mate and said it was a time to forget their grievances.
"It was a team`s victory and no one could be left out of the celebrations. BCCI should act like a big brother and forget any harsh feelings, if any on the momentous occasion," he said. Madan Lal, who is coaching one of the ICL teams, however said it was not proper to respond to assumptions over the issue.
"So far no one knows whether BCCI is holding celebrations or whom they are inviting. It is not proper to assume things," he said.
Lal said even if the BCCI decided to leave the four players out of their list of guests, they would be helpless.
"We have not committed any crime by joining the ICL. We have not murdered anyone. We have all the right to do a job wherever we feel like. Tomorrow, even if BCCI calls us for job we`ll be there," he said.
"If they feel we deserve they will invite us to the celebrations or if they won`t it`s their prerogative. We cannot do anything about it," he added.
Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar has already booked the Lord`s long room and invited the whole squad on June 25 for a private celebration of the win.
