Irfan to open cricket tourney today

Bhopal, Mar 19: On Thursday famous cricketer Irfan will inaugurate Iftekhar Memorial Cricket Tournament-2008 whcih would be organised under the aegis of Iftekhar Cricket Academy from March 20 at Bab-e-Ali ground.

The tournament would be inaugurated by the Cricketer of Indian Cricket Team Irfan Pathan on March 20 at 8.30 am. The secretary of the Academy Hamidullah Khan Mamu informed that the tournament would be organised on knockout basis under international rules.

The inaugural match would be played between Bhopal Divisional Cricket Association (BDCA) Chairman Eleven and Masters Eleven. Irfan would attend the function for 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, on the eve of the inauguration, superintendent of police Jaideep Prasad inspected Bab-e-Ali ground to review the security arrangements.

Irfan Pathan is visiting Bhopal for the special scheme Irfan-O-Mania. Irfan shall visit Old Campion Ground and BSSS College and meet fans and present them mementos. During his visit, Irfan might be seen at important locations of the city like New Market 10 No. Stop, 11 No. Stop etc. Pathan will also brief a press conference. Cricket lovers of city will have a chance to meet country's most talented all round cricketer and shall take away signed gifts from him."

Mehra couple shine in AICS Golf Tournament

Mrs Satjit Mehra, wife of Dilip Mehra, IAS and Principal Secretary (Jail), Govt of MP bagged two individual prizes including one for the "Best Gross Score" in the All India Civil Services Golf Championship held on March 15 and 16 at Qutab Golf Course, New Delhi. Mrs Dilip Mehra also got the individual prize for "Straightest Drive" in the championship. Dilip Mehra and Mrs Satjit Mehra had the distinction of being the only "Playing Couple" in the tournament.

As many as 150 golfers including of ladies participated in the championship. Participant Golfers represented a wide cross-section of eminent serving and retired members of All India Service, Public Sector Undertakings and Armed Forces.

The tournament was inaugurated by Surendra Singh, former Cabinet Secretary, Govt. of India / President of All India Civil Services Golf Society and the prizes were given away by HE Vice President of India Mohammad Hamid Ansari.
