Set up food processing units: To improve condition of farmers

There are ample possibilities of developing agriculture industry in Madhya Pradesh. Even after being at the heart of the country, the State has not made desired progress in this sector. In this connection, the announcement of Commercial Tax Minister, Babulal Gaur to provide grant up to Rs 5 crore to the businessmen who would establish food processing units in the State, is commendable. Gaur believes that Madhya Pradesh is proper place for establishing food processing industries. The minister was addressing a seminar organised under the auspices of Federation of MP Chambers of Commerce and Industry and MP Agro". Gaur said that the State has good road and rail connectivity with five states at its borders. Quality of Sharbati wheat has become a choice in foreign countries. Even after this advantage, the farmers of the State are facing problems as they are not getting proper price of their produce. Practical problems might be a hurdle in backwardness of agriculture. Central and state governments are providing facilities in this connection. Farmers should take advantage of these facilities. The completion of Rs 8,000 cr ken-Betwa project would help in irrigation of 50 lakh ha land. It is a dilemma that even after being an agriculture-based country our farmers are resorting to extreme steps of committing suicides. If some are in deep debts others are facing the curse of natural calamities. Agriculture contribution in GDP is 1.4 in spite of 4 per cent. The Union and the state governments need to frame policies which help the farmers obtain proper price for their produce. It is hoped the efforts of the State government in promoting food processing units would bring good results for the state and its farmers.
