Sarabjeet must be saved: Promote cordial relations

Indian national, Sarabjeet Singh who is imprisoned in Kot Lakhpat jail in Pakistan, has been issued a death warrant by the Pakistan government. Sarabjeet is likely to be hanged in the morning of April one. According to Pakistan Human Rights Minister, Ansar Barni, the date has, as yet not been fixed. Earlier, President Pervez Musharraf had rejected his mercy petition on March 5th. Jail officials have got documents related to death warrant and President Pervez has signed on it. The family members of Sarabjeet are passing through a difficult time. At the same time Indians too have been shocked by the news. Sarabjeet's sister, Baljeet Kaur would be meeting the Prime Minister pleading for mercy to her brother. According to Barni, two more chances might be given for begging mercy and he would try his best that Sarabjeet is saved from hanging. Punjab government also wishes that Sarabjeet could also get mercy like Kashmir Singh. It is noticeable that Sarabjeet had gone across the country in a drunken state in 1990. Pakistan has claimed that he is Manjeet who was charged for bomb explosion in Lahore in the year 1990. Pak decision to hang the Indian prisoner could create hurdles in the otherwise peaceful situation developing in the sub-continent. Innocent Indians who are imprisoned for years in Pakistani jails must be released. More so, Pakistan should abstain from the tendency of launching fake cases against them. It has almost been cleared that Sarabjeet and Manjeet are different persons. Neither Sarabjeet is any Indian spy, nor person like him who is simple can dare to commit a heinous crime like bomb blast. Indian government should also consider over this issue seriously. In the interest of developing cordial bilateral relations, both India and Pakistan need to abstain from such decisions. For the sake of humanity, Pakistan should adopt a liberal attitude in Sarabjeet case.
