Concern over road accidents: Lack of education, awareness

Uncontrolled traffic in the state has become a matter of great concern. Road accidents are increasing day by day. Recently, percentage of death toll due to accidents has also increased. Other cities including the capital are witness to mobike riders showing their styles on roads. Several times it results in fatal accidents leading to the riders death. Bus and truck drivers are also found to be in a hurry and spread fear among the passers-by. The concerned authorities are not able to check the situation going out of hand. Moreover the people are not following the traffic signals. Four wheeler drivers often violate traffic rules. Bus drivers stop their buses anywhere in the city except at assigned bus stops. This violation is resorted to by the mini bus drivers as also by the star bus drivers. It seems that people believe in violating traffic rules and make the public transport buses halt whereever they like. Lack of infrastructure continues to haunt the traffic system. Road safety rules are not being followed at all. Whereas, road safety and proper traffic should be taken on priority. Cooperation of common people should be taken in following traffic rules, but its responsibility goes to police administration completely. There is need to follow traffic and safety rules completely and initiatives should be taken to control road accidents.
