Mythological TV serials return with bang

Bhopal Today Team

Bhopal, Mar 13: Television is one of the powerful means of entertainment in today's busy and hectic life. People see Television as one of their good companions. It has become a trend that people end up their day viewing serials of their liking and choice. Courtesy so many channels, people get a wide variety of programmes to entertain themselves. These days, TV serials based on history and mythology are pulling a lot of public. Perhaps, spectators are losing interest in stereotyped 'Saas-Bahu' serials and they want some change. To develop a vast pool of spectators, every channel is focussing on presenting Historical and Mythological serials.

To show something different, these TV channels are emphasizing on serials based on mythology. Women spectators are more inclined towards such programmes rather than family drama. The reason for this interest is that public which have seen serials like Ramayan and Mahabharat try to find difference between old and new serials.

These days, serials like Mahabharat and Ramayan on NDTV Imagine in new version, Prithviraj Chauhan and Dharamveer on Star Plus are shown. These serials may not have gained that popularity but spectators like them to save themselves from monotony and boredom.

Shridevi Nayak, who is working in TTTI says 'These serials based on mythology are different from regular serials in which there are conspiracies and sabotage. I find Ramayan and Mahabharat serials, which are presented on NDTV Imagine very interesting. There are new artists in these serials. These mythological serials are being presented in a very beautiful way'.

Rita Pawde, a housewife says 'Serials like Ramayan and Mahabharat were telecast previously. At that time, our children could not see them. That is why it is a good occasion and opportunity for them to know more about our culture and religion. In the present times, children are more inclined towards viewing Television than reading books. Telecast of mythological serials on Television is a good thing as it makes young generation aware of their culture'.

Sunita, a housewife is a regular viewer of TV serials, says, 'I like these serials because these days, directors intentionally prolong serials according to their whims and fancies. As a viewer, one is not sure even about the next episode as it is totally depended on its Director's wish. On the contrary, mythological serials are based on historical facts, which cannot be changed'.

In this context, Shobha, Research Assistant, TTTI says, 'These serials are very enlightening for new generation. They will come to know about mythological stories. At least, children are going to see them, which will help them in developing ethics and values. I like Ramayan serial very much. The new version of this seems wonderful. Every incident and information is dealt with perfection in it'.
