Weather chenges eating habites

Bhopal, Mar 12: It is said that winter is a healthy season and good for making one's health. Similarly, we need to be slightly more careful about our diet in summer. Summer season has arrived and it has started to show its true colours. The change in season has affected our lifestyle. This change is quite visible as it ranges from one's dressing up and eating style. This change can be vividly seen in the capital too. One can easily get to see handcarts of Lemon water near the roadsides along with spurt in the sale of cold drinks. Shops of cold drinks and ice creams are witnessing sudden rise in their clientele and sale. In summer people resort to all such measures, which can keep them cool and beat the heat.

It is very important for us to be careful regarding diet in summer season as the temperature during this period is very high. One should eat such things, which satisfy the palate but at the same time keeps us cool and maintains our health. Because of high temperature during, there is a possibility of food contamination. In such a condition, it becomes mandatory for us to be extra cautious about whatever we eat. Keeping this necessity in mind, Bhopal Today Team interviewed some Nutritionists of the capital to know about the diet, which is good for health and is tasty.

Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables

Namita Jain, a beautician says 'As far as possible, one should consume more seasonal fruits and vegetable in this season as they are beneficial for health. We should be also very careful about diet of children. They should be given fruits and fruit juices as supplementary diet. Before going out in daytime, one should take diet which is light. Heavy food items should be avoided during this time'.

Keep food items well covered

Amita Baluapuri, a nutritionist says 'Leaving food uncovered can be dangerous during this time as there is sudden rise in the number of flies and insects which contaminate food. Consumption of uncovered food can lead to several diseases. Avoid eating stale food in this season. Whatever you eat, should be fresh. Eat those fruits and vegetables which are good for your health'.

Consume more fluids

Anjali Khare, another nutritionist says 'We should ensure intake of fluids in large quantity as a lot of water from the body comes out in the form of sweat in summer season. To prevent dehydration, drink water with salt, lemon juice mixed in it. Traditional heat busters like 'Lassi', 'Chhach', 'Aam Ka Pana' and Bel Ka Sharbat can be taken at regular intervals. If one is going out in daytime then ensure more intake of lemon water and sugarcane juice'.

Avoid eating roasted and fried food items

Nutritionist Archana Mishra says, 'Avoid eating fried, roasted and spicy food items, as digestion is weak in this season. So, don't eat those things, which cause indigestion. Make use of vegetables like Gourd and fruits like watermelon as they provide water to body in a natural way. This will prevent body from the condition of dehydration. Meals should not be taken in one go but should be consumed in small servings at regular intervals. Don't overeat'.

Measures to beat the heat

* Always keep a bottle full of drinking water

* Make use of Umbrella when going out in daytime

* As a protection from heat waves), keep a piece on onion with you

* Make use of Goggles

* Cover your head with a piece of cloth while moving
