UNI stringer assault: CM assures proper action

By Our Staff Reporter

Bhopal, Mar 12: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today assured that proper action would be taken after an inquiry into an assault on and harassment of a senior journalist of Sehore district.

The assurance came when a delegation of the local Central Press Club submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister. The memo described as ''shameful'' the targeting of UNI stringer Ramnarayan Tamrakar, allegedly at the district administration's behest.

Media persons sported with black badges today as a mark of protest. The memo demanded suspension of Collector Raghavendra Singh, free treatment and compensation for Tamrakar.

The scribe was targeted by a team of police and administrative officials after he issued news regarding a dispute between the Collector and a parliamentarian's driver. Tamrakar's establishment was demolished on March 10 after being labelled an ''encroachment,'' he was dragged along the road and beaten all the way to a police station.
