Watch Tower: Participation of all classes in society

JNU is only university/institute which is providing proper share to one and all without favouritism whereas this achievement is still awaiting in other institutes/universities- Satish K Singh

Since independence we have been trying our best to provide appropriate opportunity to every person to play a part in power, party, education, job, society etc. But alas, contribution of all classes in all the above is a daydream till date. At present too, women reservation, participation of scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, backward classes and minority in each segment is to be implemented. Though we always converse to bestow apposite partaking to each class, yet in actuality, we are not victorious to turn our philosophy in realism. After 60 years of independence too, the task of upliftment of scheduled castes and tribes is not completed. Even special drive for SC/ST recruitments in government jobs and admission in higher educational institutions are not imparting beloved domino effect. In the same way, all kinds of efforts to provide proper share to all castes, creeds, religions and minority communities have failed. From Jawaharlal Nehru to Dr Manmohan Singh, all have failed in providing needful go halves to all without discriminating them on any ground. But this Herculean task has been materialized by JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University) New Delhi. Almost two months before, on December 31, 2007 some figures regarding admission in JNU had been published in university's news in the name of (diversity and campuses). After analyzing that news we can draw the conclusion that, JNU is only university/institute which is providing proper share to one and all without favoritism whereas this achievement is still awaiting in other institutes/universities, political parties, government jobs etc. Just look at the figures of that news which was based on average admittance of students in the University of Last Five years-:

Students Class - Average of last five years in percent

Scheduled castes - 14.89

Scheduled tribes - 08.84

Other backward classes - 21.00

Minorities - 10.00

Physically disabled - 02.79

Male - 65.86

Female - 34.14

Rural background - 35.87

Urban background - 64.12

Background of public schools - 27.12

Other schools - 72.77

Students of lesser than 3000 monthly income group - 21.37

Students of 3000 to 6000 monthly income group - 21.84

Students of more than 6000 monthly income group - 56.77

As we know, as per Indian constitution, there should be 15% reservation for scheduled caste, 10.00% reservation for scheduled tribes in educational institutions, while in JNU this percent is 14.89% and 08.84% consecutively. This is so in close proximity to actual figure. This is actually immense attainment which has been achieved by JNU. It may be source of inspiration as well, because this feat has not been achieved by any body in India till now. Along with this, it is also matter of exploration. How we receive this realization? It completely depends upon us. Whether, we take it positively or not. Interestingly, up to five years before, JNU was known as elite university. But now this is university of all class, creed, sex and minority. For example, now in JNU, 21.00% belongs to OBC, 10% belongs to minority, 35.87 % belongs to rural background and enduring belongs to urban backdrop. Similarly 27.21% students come from public schools and residual come from other surroundings. In fact, since inception JNU has been paying its attention towards this aspect of reality and at last it achieved its aim. In other words, JNU has proper planning for achieving its targets. Every year JNU revises its admission policy. It always believes in efforts. Through surveys, JNU tries to know education level of particular community, developed status of region, percent of backwardness, per capita income of state, awareness of people, per hectare yield of fastidious province etc. On account of this process, now percent of rural surroundings students has been increased from 05.00% to 35.87%. In nutshell, there is great need to carry out research work in every level of society. Perhaps due to this fact, every year, JNU conducts an admission test all over India. For this, 68 centres are being allocated in India and 2 in south East Asia by its authorities. Seats are being reserved for every state on the basis of education level, backwardness, population of particular community etc. De facto, this is very scientific process, which is being followed by JNU establishment. According to last year data, about 100000/-(one lakh) students had been appeared in test for 1400/-(Fourteen hundred) seats only. This figure shows that cutthroat competition is needed to take admission in JNU. At this moment, there is high time to think over this triumph and find out those corrective measures, through that JNU has done this job. In other words, this lesson is for everyone and it should be implemented in authenticity. In that case only, we can fulfill dream of socialistic pattern of society.
