As many as 35 personnel of the CISF have been caught on corruption charges last year compared to 25 in 2006, the government said on Tuesday.
15 constables, 7 each head constables and Sub Inspectors, four assistant Sub Inspectors and one each inspector and Deputy Commandant were caught on charges of corruption, Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal informed the Lok Sabha during question hour.
In 2006, the number of CISF officials caught were 25, including 18 constables while the figure for 2005 was 23 which included 16 constables.
To a question whether there is an increase in the incidents of corruption in paramilitary was increasing, the minister said an increase has been noticed in CISF only.
BSF has received six complaints from NGOs about personnel indulging in harassment on flimsy pretext in the border areas of Bangladesh in Basirhat sub division in West Bengal.
On inquiry, Jaiswal said, these complaints were found to be without substance.
The operation of BSF Air Wing has been affected by shortage of pilots due to rapid increase in the overall demand for pilots in the country.
The BSF has entered into an MoU with IAF for deputation of IAF officers to BSF Air Wing and the authorised strength of 26 pilots is expected to be achieved following operationalisation of the agreement.
The central paralmilitary forces, including BSF and CRPF, have sought risk based compensation in terms of additional allowances ranging from 10 percent to 50 percent of the basic pay, Jaiswal said.
