Women and Environment (WE) is the new movement originated from the various ideas pooled out by the women participants on the occasion of International Women's Day programme arranged at Regional Museum of Natural History (RMNH) on March 7. As per the mooted idea all the women environmentalist may conduct environmental activity under this banner and RMNH will extend all the logistic support for the effective functioning of this "WE" to save the environment.
RMNH, Bhopal organised one-day workshop on "Women and Environment" on March 7 to mark International Women's Day. Environmentalist and Retired Senior IAS Officer MN Buch was the chief guest on this occasion and Dr Ram Prasad, Chairman of Advisory and Planning Committee of RMNH presided over the programme. Large number of academicians, environmentalists, planners, NGO representatives, activists, research scholars participated in this workshop to discuss the role of women in environmental care.
MN Buch said in the inaugural address that we are receiving the southwest monsoon because of deserts. Therefore, we should not ignore any component of nature even deserts. Buildings and concreting the lands are much harmful to environment, he said adding that land use pattern is changed forever. Human beings are responsible for pollution is finishing even rivers. MN Buch said that a mother can control her child to improve home atmosphere as well as environment. Public transport system should be improved while women can help to minimize individual transport system. He pointed out that Government schools are having tree-less play ground and women can discuss with the management of school in this regard.
