Home, cool home: Change in season brings alterations in decoration

Bhopal, Mar 10: It is summer season and obviously people look for a cool living place to rewind. Many people have a dilemma regarding the right place to go and get respite from the high temperature of this time. If you also think like this, then forget about going anywhere as you can make your own home a cool and the right place to enjoy summer season and beat the heat. We are presenting certain ideas and tips given by expert architects which will change the look of your home. Along with it, we are sharing experiences of those housewives who have turned their homes into a great place to live in just by application of intelligence and presence of mind.

Tips to keep home cool

One of the renowned architects of the city S.M. Hussain says, 'We can keep our homes cool just by making some minor alterations. For this, it is very important to pay attention to colour scheme. In summer, if we use white or blue colour for inner rooms, then it gives a soothing and cool look. If cotton cloth or linen is used for sofa cover then it helps in reducing the heat of Dunlop inside sofa. One should use linen bedsheets as they are soft and give a cooling effect. Use of LED and LFC should be made for illumination purpose as they save power and keep the room light. Keep as many plants as possible inside the rooms. Use synthetic grass in place of carpet inside the rooms as it is environment- friendly and cool. If possible, exterior wall paint should be white. China Mosaic can be tried on roof as it reduces heat. Keep more and more plants on Terrace'.

Poonam Moolchandani, a housewife and an astrologer says, 'Try to give natural look to your home, as far as possible. It has two advantages. First, it would be economical for you and secondly, it gives a beautiful look to your home. In my house, I ensure maximum plantation of trees. For the colour of rooms, we use white which sooths us very much. I never forget to keep fresh flowers in every room. At the entrance of main door, we use 'Khas'. Adding something more to her useful tips, she says, 'Along with decoration, we take special care about our diet intake in this time of the year. If we eat a balanced diet, then everything will be O.K'.

Vinod Moolchandani, owner of Sargam Electronics says, 'Peace resides in cool mind. If there is peace then better ideas would automatically come to our mind. We make use of natural things to keep our home, cool. For this, we ensure maximum plantation. We use green curtains for the doors'.

Ashok Chabaria, an Accounts Officer in post office says, 'We make less use of electricity to keep our home cool. As far as possible, we avoid using fan and cooler. We have designed our house ensuring proper ventilation in it. The interiors are painted with white colour. We have done plantation on roof, sufficient enough to keep our home cool'.

Hridesh Kirar, an architect says 'A house should be designed in such a way that maximum space in rooms is ensured. Spacious rooms give a cooling effect. The things used for decoration in home should be of light colour. All this would develop an environment enhancing attraction of home'.

S.M. Waseem, architect says, 'people must use ceiling fans less and less since ceiling fans draw hot air which is in the upper drought and spread the hot air throughout the room. Instead, coolers and table fans should be used.
