State
and central governments are concerned over agriculture sector
and farmers. After a long period the governments are taking
up the issue seriously. But, it is necessary to think about
the betterment of farmers only after assessing the losses
of their crops. Care should also be taken on storage of the
crops produced by the farmers. Generally, due to lack of measures
in preserving fruits-vegetables and grains leads to their
rotting, ruining and wastage. Similarly, wheat, pulses, oilseeds
and kharif crops suffer damage from the farms to mandis. Mangoes,
cucumbers, watermelons and muskmelons and other seasonal crops
also get damaged. There is lack of storage facilities for
vegetables, leafy vegetables and fruits in summer. In such
conditions these crops rot, lying on the floor. Wheat, pulses,
and soya like crops meet the same fate. At the same time,
during harvesting of crops and, a lot of grain is wasted.
Then it is wasted in transporting and taking it to Mandis.
Similarly, fodder and dry grass, precious as food for cattle,
suffer extensive damage due to lack of measures to protect
them from natural causes. Half of the fodder is burnt in the
farms itself. In this way crops worth thousands of rupees
gets ruined. Whereas, there could be lot of income for the
farmers if proper care is taken for these farm produce. The
concerned government agencies should help the farmers in saving
the foodgrains and other farm produce from suffering damage.
As a result the farmers' income would register rise. There
should be planning on every aspect of crop production.
